Vegan Mofo!!

Alright, in an effort to make me cook and post more, I've joined up for Vegan Mofo! It's the Vegan Month o' Food ...all November long! I noticed some folks are choosing themes, but I think my theme should be "cook and post as much as I can!".

I'm already straying from that... I had not much time before work for cooking, so I walked down the street to Wayne's Chicago Red Hots. (a hotdog place here in PDX that has an two awesome vegan dogs.)

I got myself a "Treehugger" dog with Chicago-Style toppings and fries. I eat them all the time and they are still amazing.

I know some people are saying, hey I could make that at home, but I think this is one of those examples where the sum is greater than the parts. The steamed bun and all those toppings really make it.

Aaaaaand I got some fries...all potatoey and sprinkled with Kosher Salt. Aw yeah.

Stay tuned for a few boring meals, then payday, then grocery shopping! I'll tell you how I shop twice a month and on a budget. Oh and Thanksgiving menu ideas too!

PANCAKES!...and penny pinching

So....I did end up making those cinnamon rolls with several substitutions and just a sugar glaze instead of frosting and they were pretty good! However I forgot a picture and after the first day, they looked a bit grody but still tasted delicious heated up.

Today I made PANCAKES! A benefit of unemployment is making yourself breakfast in the not so early morning. (I now wake up at 8:00 instead of 4:45!!!)

These are whole wheat pastry flour pancakes from this veg web recipe: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=5337.0 since I didn't have all the ingredients for the Vegan Brunch pancakes.

I also used the Vegan Brunch whole berry sauce with just a little less sugar added in....so yummy! And cheaper if you have a few frozen berries in your freezer than real maple syrup.

I'm trying not to buy any food until I figure out if I can get some food stamps..I have an appointment later today to find out. My cupboards are so bare! :( At least there are pancakes! :)

Shame on you Pix Patisserie....

Yesterday I was very displeased when I went to have a cuppa at a little coffee and dessert place around the corner from my house named Pix Patisserie. Here in Portland, I think they are widely regarded as the best place to take a date or a good friend for espresso, cocktails and sweets. And I totally used to think it was charming. Until yesterday... I was very disappointed to see they were selling T Shirts which read...

J'AIME FOIE GRAS

Which, as most of you know, is a horrid practice...just google it to check it out. (yum yum burst liver)

This may seem drastic, but I don't think I'll ever go back. Plus there is the fact they have no vegan desserts and sometimes dodgy service.....but mostly the foie gras promoting tees. How sad.
